The University of Vermont

The University of Vermont (UVM), named one of America’s best colleges by U.S. News & World Report, offers a combination of the close faculty-student relationships typically seen in small liberal arts colleges and the extensive resources of a top research institution. Established in Burlington, Vermont in 1791, UVM is New England’s fifth oldest university, following Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and Brown.

UVM's setting in a valley between the Adirondack and Green mountain ranges, on the shores of Lake Champlain, brings inspiration to visitors and residents alike. The university is home to 10,371 undergraduate students, 1,516 graduate students, 460 medical students and 1,299 full- and part-time faculty members.

The University of Vermont’s Institute for Global Sustainability

UVM founded the Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) in 2007 to promote sustainability training and research. Part of the University of Vermont Continuing Education Department, the IGS is led by the Advisory Board and Institute staff members. The creation of the online Institute for Global Sustainability enables UVM to further its standing as an environmental leader.
